A COMMUNITY event was held for two charitable organisations in collaboration with Great Heart Charity Association (GHCA).
The event was sponsored and organised by Advanced Micro Devices Global Services (M) Sdn Bhd (AMD).
Two groups comprising 81 AMD employees volunteered at the Great Heart Community Centre (GHCC) and Destiny Starting Point old folk’s home.
At Destiny Starting Point, volunteers helped out with clean-up activities ranging from cleaning floors and bathrooms to furniture and fans. They also assisted in other chores such as changing bedsheets and gardening.
Others helped with repainting the walls, pillars and the home’s front gate.
At GHCC, volunteers helped out in similar activities by spring-cleaning the community centre’s interior, exterior and vicinity.
They also worked on planting vegetables in a 185sq m designated garden, and helped with harvesting, weighing and packing vegetables for distribution to the centre’s neighbours and senior citizens.
In addition, AMD sponsored 200 lunch boxes that were distributed to families living around the community centre.
After the activities ended at both venues at noon, the volunteers gathered at Destiny Starting Point for lunch with 50 residents of the home.
Gifts including new clothes, shoes and towels were handed out to the old folk.
Many of the beneficiaries expressed happiness and thanked the volunteers for lending a helping hand.
AMD employee Ilangovan Ganesan said he felt happy volunteering. “I am glad we made small contributions for the good of society. This event left many of us fulfilled,” he said.
The event was part of AMD’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative. The company spent RM12,000 to buy work tools, bed sheets, commode chairs, a wheelchair, and for the gifts and food.
Destiny Starting Point manages six homes for the disabled, homeless and children in Klang.
The old folk’s home is located about 4km from GHCC in Jalan Petola, outside Kampung Raja Uda.
Great Heart serves as a platform to contribute and assist underprivileged groups. The centre’s services include free traditional Chinese medication, sponsoring of lunch for the needy and various training classes for underprivileged children.
