THE planned inaugural direct flight between Ipoh, Perak, and Guangzhou, China, has been delayed because of some “technical issues”.
Perak Tourism Committee chairman Tan Kar Hing said the direct flight, which was expected to begin this month, has encountered problems which are currently being resolved.
“My team is working hard to get the flight going,” he said after opening the Perak MATTA Fair at Ipoh Convention Centre.
On another matter, Tan said the state was aware of complaints from tourists and tour agencies on the conditions of public facilities.
“We are trying to resolve this. The state will look into improving bus stops, public toilets and upgrading the tourist information centre near the Ipoh Padang, Sultan Azlan Shah Airport and the Ipoh train station.”
Tan added that there should be more awareness among the public, local government and relevant industry players on the need to maintain these infrastructure.
“The state can only urge them to have a different mindset about these facilities,” he said.
Tan also launched the Hop-On Hop-Off bus after the MATTA Fair opening ceremony.
He said apart from the current promotions for domestic and foreign visitors, there would also be special promotions for schools and welfare homes until the end of the year.
