Butterworth to get digital library

DEWAN Ria in Kampung Benggali will be converted into the Butterworth Digital Library under the Penang government with the co-operation of the Seberang Prai Municipal Council and Think City Sdn Bhd.

“This is in line with Industrial Revolution 4.0 in terms of improving accessibility in information resource.

“The project will help Penang become a smart, comfortable and everlasting place,” said former Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

He added that the project would be funded by the state at a cost of RM4.6mil while Think City Sdn Bhd would bear the cost for the appointment of consultants which is estimated to be RM500,000.

“Once the digital library is completed in 18 months, it will be managed by the Chief Minister Incorporated.

“There will be a digital library, a community hall, space for indoor sports and a cafeteria.

“The soft launch of the facility is expected to be in August next year.

“It will be open to the public in October 2019,” said Lim when announcing the project at Dewan Ria, Kampung Benggali in Butterworth recently.

The Butterworth Digital Library is the third one in Penang but the first of its kind in Seberang Prai.
