YANGON: A deep depression is crossing south of Kyaikto in Mon State, near the mouth of the Sittaung River, and has been classified as being at the Brown Stage, according to the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology.
The deep depression is expected to continue moving through Bago, Yangon, Nay Pyi Taw, Magway and Mandalay regions over the next 48 hours.
According to observations at 6:30 p.m. Myanmar Standard Time on September 28, the deep depression that had formed over the northern Andaman Sea and adjoining areas, including the Gulf of Mottama and the Mon-Tanintharyi coastal region, moved north-northwest and has begun crossing south of Kyaikto in Mon State, near the mouth of the Sittaung River.
The deep depression was centered over the sea approximately 35 nautical miles east-northeast of Thongwa, 35 nautical miles east-southeast of Bago, and 90 nautical miles south-southeast of Phyu.
At 6:30 p.m. Myanmar Standard Time, it was located at 17.1 degrees north latitude and 97.0 degrees east longitude, with a central pressure of 1,000 hectopascals and maximum winds of approximately 35 to 40 miles per hour.
The deep depression is expected to move north-northwest and may continue crossing Bago Region, Yangon Region, Nay Pyi Taw, Magway Region and Mandalay Region over the next 48 hours.
Due to the influence of the deep depression, thunderstorms are expected at scattered to widespread locations in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon Region, Mandalay Region, Bago Region, Magway Region, Ayeyawady Region, Tanintharyi Region, Kayah State, Kayin State, Mon State, Rakhine State and southern Shan State from the night of September 28 through September 30. Heavy rainfall is also possible in some regions and isolated areas.
Occasional squalls and rough seas are expected in the Ayeyawady Delta, Gulf of Mottama, along the Mon-Tanintharyi coast and offshore waters.

The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology has warned that the influence of the deep depression could bring heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds, flash floods and landslides. Residents in the Ayeyawady Delta, Gulf of Mottama and coastal areas have been advised to remain alert to heavy rain, squalls and sudden flooding.
Domestic aviation services, as well as nearshore and offshore fishing vessels and ships operating along Myanmar’s coastline and in offshore waters, have also been advised to take precautionary measures and avoid hazardous weather conditions. - Eleven Media/ANN
