MELAKA: Having two decades of experience in managing general and by-elections in the country is an advantage for Barisan Nasional’s Telok Mas candidate Datuk Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman.

Contesting for the first time, he has been serving the party’s youth movement for 20 years and believes he can put his knowledge and experience to good use for the people.

“I was tasked with various tasks during previous elections, so I will apply the same strategy here.

“The only difference now is that I am the candidate,” the 45-year-old said when interviewed at the elections operation centre at Taman Pertam Jaya here.

Abdul Razak is treasurer for both Umno Youth and Kota Melaka Umno youth wing.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron launched Abdul Razak’s service centre in a carnival-like atmosphere.

Also present was Barisan’s Kota Melaka parliamentary candidate Eric Choo Wei Sern from MCA.

Telok Mas was the only state seat won by Barisan in the DAP stronghold of Kota Melaka.

Razak said he would use his connections at Putrajaya if given the mandate by voters on May 9.

“There were no issues in the state constituency as it has been well managed,” he said, adding that he would focus on people’s welfare if he becomes an assemblyman.

Telok Mas consists of 75% Malays out of 20,400 voters while 8,000 of the electorates are between the ages of 21 and 40 years.
