EMPLOYEES of Renesas Semiconductor (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd celebrated their 45th anniversary in style.

At a party themed ‘Night of Colours’, the staff dressed up like celebrities including some in sarees and punjabi suits.

Besides songs, there was also a laser display at the bash at the SPICE Convention Centre in Relau, Penang.

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, who was the guest of honour, said Renesas (previously Hitachi Semiconductor) was one of the ‘eight samurais’ in the Bayan Lepas silicon valley in 1972.

“The firm started with only 200 workers and has now expanded to several subsidiaries including Renesas Semiconductor Design and Renesas Semiconductor Kulim,” he said.

Lim praised the company for holding community projects.

Also present at the dinner were Japanese consul general Kiyoshi Itoi, Renesas president Yasushi Kasatani and Renesas Production Technology president Osamu Nogimura.
