Amirudin: S’gor events boost economy, advance national sports
THE PKNS Selangor Masters and Selangor International Junior Golf Championship (SIJGC) take centre stage in the local sports calendar this month, as over 250 golfers from the region converge on Seri Selangor Golf Club in Petaling Jaya.
Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the venue had cemented its reputation among both recreational and professional players.
“Both last year’s Selangor Masters and this year’s edition have added value to the venue.
“Last year, it coincided with Visit Selangor Year 2025, and we welcomed over eight million tourists throughout the year.
“This year, in conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2026, the PKNS Selangor Masters tees off slightly earlier to maximise opportunities, particularly in attracting more tourists to Malaysia, Selangor and this tournament,” he said at a press conference at Seri Selangor.
Amirudin said sport had always been close to his heart, especially since his appointment in 2014 as Selangor executive councillor for youth, sports and infrastructure.
PKNS Selangor Masters once again serves as the opener for the Asian Development Tour (ADT) season.

“Co‑sanctioned with our domestic Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM) Tour, this tournament offers crucial competitive pathways for Malaysian players aiming to advance their careers.
“The top 10 finishers on the ADT Order of Merit will earn Asian Tour cards for 2027.
“We hope to see several Malaysians among the qualifiers,” he said of the event scheduled for Feb 11 to 14.
On the juniors tournament, he said SIJGC was a standout fixture on the regional calendar.
“This year, we are thrilled to welcome 120 talented young players from 11 countries, competing for both team and individual honours.
“We anticipate a spectacular display of skill as the region’s finest young golfers take on the challenging Seri Selangor layout,” he said ahead of the start of SIJGC.
Amirudin also expressed appreciation to tournament partners, alongside ADT, PGM Tour, UUM International School Melaka, Seri Selangor Golf Club and PKNS for their commitment to sporting excellence.
PKNS Selangor Masters organising committee chairman and State Secretary Datuk Dr Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin said the event was once again poised to deliver a world‑class showcase.
“With 80 ADT stars, 40 PGM Tour standouts and 24 invitees, we look forward to a thrilling week on one of the nation’s most demanding courses,” he said.
He added that the boys’ individual junior champion would earn a direct spot in the PKNS Selangor Masters.
“To further champion our local heroes, should an international player win, we will grant an additional place to the top Malaysian finisher.
“This ensures our homegrown talent has a clear pathway to the global stage.
“This year, we have gone a step further by introducing a 36‑hole qualifying round for the PKNS Selangor Masters, with the top three finishers securing their places in the main event.”
Ahmad Fadzli said the initiative reflected the organisers’ commitment to creating opportunities for participants.
“In that same spirit, we are proud to invite the 2025 Selangor Junior Masters champion, Japan’s Daichi Hayashi, to compete against the professionals this year.”
SIJGC concluded with South Korea sweeping the boys’ and girls’ titles.
In the boys’ category, Koshin Nagasaki from Japan emerged individual winner with the slot to the masters event, while the top Malaysian player was Aiden Tai John Roberts.
