Pilot project to maintain cleanliness in Section 14

THE Section 14 commercial area in Petaling Jaya is often littered with rubbish throughout the day, hence the need to have additional cleaners stationed there.

As such, Bukit Gasing assemblyman Rajiv Rishyakaran introduced a pilot project on Aug 1 to employ cleaners for extended hours between 8am and 8pm.

Rajiv said the state-appointed cleaning contractors would only clean the streets in the morning before the shops, eateries and banks open for business.

He added that although dustbins were strategically placed in the area, it did not solve the littering problem.

“It becomes dirtier as the day goes by.

“So, the cleaners will be in the area for longer hours to ensure it is clean, ” he said during his visit to check on the pilot project status with representatives from Kumpulan Darul Ehsan (KDEB) Waste Management Sdn Bhd in Section 14.

Section 14 was chosen because of its high traffic location as it is also home to Jaya Shopping Centre, Digital Mall, a food court and a wet market.

“This area has a good lunch and dinner crowd, with many people running errands, ” he added.

Rajiv said the project costs about RM10, 000 a month to have additional KDEB cleaners.

He hopes the project would gain positive support from residents and business owners in the area before it is introduced to other parts of the city.
