Starting Jan 17 next year, Batik Air will fly direct from the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang, Selangor to the Kota Kinabalu International Airport in Sabah.

This new route, which runs daily, also allows passengers to continue their journey to Tawau. This one-hour flight reduces the overall travel time to the Sabah east coast; it takes on average eight hours to get to KK to Tawau by land.

Batik Air chief executive officer Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy said in a press statement, “This new service opens up more travel opportunities for both tourists and business travellers. We are not just offering an alternative to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, but we are also tapping into the growing demand for seamless connectivity within Sabah and Sarawak.”

He added that visitors can explore the state's natural beauty and cultural diversity through this new route, too.

Last year, the airports in Kota Kinabalu and Tawau saw over 3.5 million passengers and are expected to hit 4 million by the end of this year.
