The success of Visit Selangor 2025 has provided a strong foundation for Visit Selangor 2026, which aims to attract nine million tourists and further strengthen Selangor’s position as a key gateway for regional tourism.

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said that to support the target, the state government, through Tourism Selangor, would continue intensifying promotional efforts in domestic and international markets through campaigns including "Surprising Selangor”, "Selangor Kan Ada!” and "Liburan Sehat Ya di Selangor Aja!”.

"Selangor’s success today is the result of the unwavering commitment of the entire tourism ecosystem, working hand in hand to develop the industry.

"In the tourism sector, Selangor continues to make history by maintaining its position as the most visited state in Malaysia for five consecutive years since 2021,” he said in his speech at the Selangor State Tourism Awards 2026 ceremony recently.

Amirudin said Selangor recorded 36.4 million domestic visitors in 2025, an increase of 5.5% from the previous year.

"This achievement reinforces Selangor’s position as a preferred tourist destination, while also contributing to the state’s economic growth and fiscal strength.

"Selangor also remains the largest contributor to the national economy, with a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of RM460.1bil, accounting for 26.5% of Malaysia’s economy,” he said.

He said the achievement reflected the state’s economic strength, investor confidence and effectiveness of development policies implemented sustainably and inclusively.

Meanwhile, Tourism Selangor Sdn Bhd said the state government, through Tourism Selangor, remained committed to developing the tourism industry by organising the Selangor State Tourism Awards 2026.

"These awards serve as a prestigious platform to recognise the excellence, innovation and contributions of industry players in strengthening the Selangor brand at both domestic and international levels.

"In line with the aspirations of Visit Selangor Year 2026, 26 award categories have been introduced to recognise the excellence of the state’s tourism industry players,” it said in a statement.

The awards include categories such as Best Integrated Resort & Theme Park Destination, International Tourism Partnership Award and Selangor Cruise Tourism Excellence Award.

The hosting of the Selangor State Tourism Awards 2026 underscores the continued commitment of the state government and Tourism Selangor to recognising industry contributions, fostering a culture of excellence and ensuring Selangor remains a premier tourism destination in Malaysia and the ASEAN region. – Bernama
