A new luxury hospitality brand is set to make its Malaysian debut in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur.

The Waldorf Astoria Kuala Lumpur, which will be developed and owned by Tradewinds Corporation Berhad and managed by Hilton, is scheduled to open in 2024.

"As one of Asia’s key gateway cities, Kuala Lumpur, and to a larger extent, Malaysia, has always been a priority market for Hilton,” Hilton senior vice president (Development, Asia and Australasia) Guy Phillips.

The hotel is set to boost the country's profile as a top destination, said Tradewinds managing director and group chief executive officer Muhammad Zainal Ashikin.

"We believe this will be a high value addition that will elevate the country’s hospitality offerings to both business and leisure travellers, further cementing the country’s position as one of the world’s top travel destinations,” he said.

Located within KL’s Golden Triangle, Waldorf Astoria KL is within walking distance to the city’s top malls and attractions including Pavilion KL, The Starhill and the Petronas Twin Towers.

The luxury hotel will feature custom-designed interiors and furnishings at each of its 279 suites.

It will also feature five distinctive restaurants including Peacock Alley, the iconic lounge and bar synonymous with the Waldorf Astoria brand, and a state-of-the-art wellness centre.

The property will also house meeting spaces and a ballroom.

Renovation and construction of the property is scheduled to start in the third quarter of this year. The first Waldorf Astoria property opened in New York's Manhattan in 1893. Hilton Hotels Corporation took over the original company, The Waldorf-Astoria Collection, in 2006; there are 37 properties under the company around the world as of December 2020, with 15 more slated to open within the next five years.
