A HOTEL in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, has combined environmental stewardship with charity by donating its retired linens to those in need.
By diverting them from the landfill, Petaling Jaya Marriott Hotel’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) project is benefitting welfare homes, charitable organisations and the underserved in Negri Sembilan.
About 8,100 pieces of retired linens had been redistributed with the help of an experienced community coordinator in Port Dickson area, the hotel said in a statement.
The recipients include Pusat Jagaan Pertubuhan Kebajikan Kanak-Kanak Yatim dan Miskin Wawasan PD, Rumah Orang Tua Jimah, Rumah Orang Tua Springhill, Desa Amal Jireh and Shepherd’s Centre Foundation Malaysia.
The programme reflected the hotel’s commitment to responsible resource management and circular economy practices that prioritise waste reduction, resource efficiency and positive social impact, the statement said.
“At Petaling Jaya Marriott Hotel, we believe hospitality extends beyond our hotel walls,” said its general manager Daniyal Ng.
“Through this initiative, we are transforming what would otherwise be discarded into valuable resources for those who need them most.
“It is a practical example of how environmental responsibility and community care can come together to create a meaningful and lasting impact,” he added.
The initiative has also been embraced by the hotel’s associates, whose involvement reflected Marriott’s culture of service and community engagement.
“Our associates are at the heart of everything we do and this initiative demonstrates their passion for making a difference,” said the hotel’s human resources director Noreen Joharudin.
“Seeing our team come together to support meaningful causes while contributing to environmental sustainability has been incredibly rewarding.
“It reinforces our commitment to creating positive change both within and beyond our workplace,” she added.
The linen donation programme formed part of the hotel’s broader sustainability journey and ongoing efforts to integrate environmental stewardship into its daily operations.
