Selangor government is mulling the development of a super app to integrate the state’s services into one platform to improve efficiency.
State local government and tourism committee chairman Datuk Ng Suee Lim (pic) said the state government acknowledged weaknesses in the current system where some residents complained about confusion over the existence of multiple apps for different services.
“The super app will include the services of all 12 local councils in Selangor.
“With the app, the people can lodge complaints and enjoy various services through one integrated platform,” he said in reply to Muhammad Hilman Idham (PN-Gombak Setia) who asked if the state planned to integrate all of its services during the Selangor State Assembly at Bangunan Dewan Negeri Selangor in Shah Alam yesterday.
However, Ng said the digitalisation of public services needed to be a gradual process and cannot be rushed.
“There are still some people, especially senior citizens, who may not be digitally literate enough to use apps.
“Hence, physical counters are still needed for now to allow these people to enjoy the services manually while we continue educating them about digitalisation,” he said.
In a supplementary question Mohd Shafie Ngah (PN-Sungai Ramal) asked on steps taken to improve local councils’ quality of service.
To this Ng said the state had standardised the licensing process for hawkers and micro-entrepreneurs through the Guidelines for the Approval of Hawkers and Micro-Entrepreneurs’ Licence/Permits under Local Authorities in Selangor.
“The guidelines prescribed that local authorities should process all licence applications within seven to 14 working days.”
Ng said for licence renewal applications, local authorities were required to resolve them within 24 hours.
“The state government has also, through Speed Selangor, sped up the approval process for development projects.
“The system allows local authorities to process six development plans at once, with approval targeted within nine days.
“Under Speed Selangor, the overall approval process of development projects is expected to be completed within a maximum of 30 days.”
He said the state would continue to monitor the complaint resolution rate and other key performance indicators of local authorities and carry out improvements where necessary.
