I feel like sheet masks have become such a big trend in skincare. Let’s be real, do I need them? – Adela, KL
A sheet mask is convenient and easy to use at home.
It gives people a simple way to add a focused skincare step to their routine, while the mask helps keep the essence in contact with the skin during use.
Many consumers also enjoy the relaxing, self-care aspect.
I believe that convenience, an enjoyable experience and the feeling of hydrated, refreshed skin all contribute to their lasting popularity.

Why can’t I just use a serum or moisturiser? What makes a sheet mask so different? – Raissa, Kuching
They serve related, but different roles.
A sheet mask is a temporary, leave-on treatment, where the sheet holds an essence against the skin for a short period.
A serum is usually a leave-on product that can target a particular skincare concern, while a moisturiser helps support skin hydration and comfort after the mask.
A mask can complement these products, but it does not have to replace them.

My mother treats putting on a sheet mask like a full-on spa session, while I see it as part of my normal routine. We often disagree about this. Am I doing it wrong? – Sam, KL
I have seen masks move from being treated mainly as an occasional pampering step to becoming part of many people’s regular routines.
Consumers are also more interested in choosing masks according to their skin’s needs and the ingredients in the formula. At the same time, they want products that are convenient and comfortable to use.
Whatever the routine, it is important to follow the product directions and pay attention to how your skin responds.
What can a sheet mask really do for my skin? – Ellina, JB
A well-formulated sheet mask can help hydrate the skin and make it look temporarily fresher, smoother and more supple.
Depending on its ingredients, it may also help improve the appearance of dullness or leave skin feeling soothed. These are cosmetic benefits – a sheet mask cannot permanently change the skin or replace a broader skincare routine.
Consistent, appropriate care matters more than expecting an instant or dramatic transformation.

Choosing a sheet mask shouldn’t be this complicated, should it? How do I know which one is best for my skin? – Liz, Penang
Start by considering your skin’s needs and sensitivities, then check the ingredient list and directions.
For example, hyaluronic acid is commonly used to help hydrate skin, while other formulas may include ingredients selected for soothing or brightening the appearance of skin.
The sheet should fit comfortably and stay in place without causing discomfort.
If your skin is sensitive, consider a simpler formula and patch test first. Choose a product from a reliable source, and avoid ingredients you already know your skin does not tolerate.

I have a confession. I’m obsessed with sheet masks! But can I use one every day, or is that too much for my skin? – Ana, KL
There is no single schedule that suits everyone. Some people may use a gentle mask regularly if the product directions allow it and their skin tolerates it; others may prefer occasional use. Follow the recommended wearing time and do not leave the mask on until it dries.
If frequent use leads to redness, itching, stinging or discomfort, stop and reassess the product or routine.
I’m a skeptic. Have facial masks even changed over the years? Have ingredients really changed that much compared with those used years ago? – Jessica, PJ
Facial masks have developed from simple sheets designed mainly to deliver moisture into more targeted skincare products.
Today, formulas may combine ingredients such as hyaluronic acid with ingredients chosen for specific needs, including soothing or improving the appearance of dullness.
The sheet itself has also become an area of innovation – its fit, texture and ability to hold essence all affect the user experience.
Investing in research into mask materials and ingredient combinations, including hyaluronic acid applications, is constantly ongoing.
