Spot on: Polka dots are back in the fashion spotlight as a cheerful trend

Stripes can be timeless, checks somewhat preppy, but polka dots, now they’re charming and playful.

Whether tiny and neat or bold and oversized, these spotted motifs are what’s catching the eye right now. From high-street labels to top-notch designer names, polka dots are popping up just about everywhere.

What’s appealing about this particular print is that it never really takes itself too seriously, and it can come in many forms as long as it is round and dot-like.

Just take a look at Miu Miu’s latest creation where a slate blue dungaree dress is accented with round silver hardware in various sizes scattered across the fabric.

Now that’s a Spring/Summer 2026 creation that is sure to have everyone connecting the dots.

If shiny spotty embellishments aren’t your thing, how about mixing things up by pairing polka dots with square checks?

Louis Vuitton does this rather brilliantly, as seen in its sporty zip-up jacket printed with the brand’s iconic damier checks in brown tones and blue polka dots.

The blend of patterns and colours is proof that opposites really do attract.

For a lesson in deliberate clashing, check out an ensemble from Tory Burch’s Resort 2027 collection.

A sharp pinstripe shirt and pleated skirt are disrupted by a jacket covered in graphic, cookie-like dots.

“The collection embraces an ‘everything but the kitchen sink’ sensibility – a world of strange familiarity where classics are reimagined with irreverence,” notes the US designer.

In its most classic form, the polka dot appears in black and white at high-street label Pull&Bear, where a blouse with a cinched waist is white with tiny black dots.

It is paired with a black skirt covered in oversized white spots.

The contrast in colour and scale makes for a look that is spot on.

In Max Mara’s Resort 2027 range, the rounded motifs on a brown V-neck knit top are black and detailed with sparkly accents, bringing a hint of glamour and whimsy to an everyday wardrobe staple.

Fendi’s black polka dots on a blue skirt almost look like it’s hand-painted, with some irregular in shape and others not quite perfectly rounded.

It’s a fun and artistic take on the print.

Even more so when paired with a ruffled blouse decorated with oval-shaped motifs that only hint at polka dots.

Talk about thinking outside the dot!
