Before becoming a mother (of two), Reem Shahwa, who was a television presenter for 15 years, adored feminine, romantic looks.
“But when you’re running around after toddlers all day, frills and dresses are not your best friend,” she says.
However, the girl who used to talk about sports (especially football) endlessly recently launched a range of delicate, feminine apparel, Coralie, in a sort of return to those romantic looks.
“I launched it as an ode to my mum who never bought her clothes off the rack. We used to spend weekends at Kamdar skimming through the aisles for fabrics before heading to our family tailor to custom make clothes,” says Reem, who debuted the brand with a Raya collection in March.

These days, her personal style is a uniform of practical, minimal and sleek styles in mostly neutral colours, but when the occasion calls for it, whipping up an elegant look is no biggie.
And sports? Reem says she’ll never lose her love for it.
“There’s something about sports that really brings people together and my love for competition will never go away,” she says.

What trend would you most like to see disappear?
Although I grew up in the Y2K era, the low rise denim and bright colours could never be me.
They’ve recently made a comeback with Gen Z and are trendy on socials.

Who would you consider a style icon and why?
I’ll always love the classic glamour and elegance of Audrey Hepburn.
On the other end of the spectrum, the quiet luxury of Carolyn Bassette and her effortless chic style will always be an inspiration.
What are three key pieces everyone should have in their wardrobe?
I would invest heavily in a good white shirt, a little black dress and a well tailored blazer!
