Trendy cut-outs: How designers are slicing open outfits with stylish precision

Not daring enough to bare much? Perhaps a cut-out here and some slashes there is what you’re looking for.

Fashion’s latest reveal is a glimpse of skin through chic cut-outs on trousers, skirts, dresses and more.

These openings or gaps lend a subtle edge, sensuality and eye-catching appeal to silhouettes, whether classic or trendy. What’s more, they project a refreshingly sophisticated sexiness that does not cross into vulgarity.

Plus, such details are suitable for evening wear as well as casual wear as seen on the latest runways.

Most interesting has to be the slits at Burberry.

For Spring/Summer 2025, the British brand presents a pair of checkered trousers with zippers running down the centre of each pant leg.

So, if you feel like giving your legs some air, just unzip as much as you want.

The runway model chose to unzip just enough to flaunt his knees.

At Tory Burch, a flash of flesh is revealed at the waist. The US brand’s blue dress with tie-on details, a handkerchief hemline and trumpet sleeves, features a slash at the corner of the waist for an unexpected touch of sensuality.

Philipp Plein too chooses an abdominal slice on a black dress with a racy, thigh- high slit.

The German designer’s cut-out in a triangular shape is geometrical glamour at its best, adding a sharp elegance to an already provocative silhouette.

Cut-outs at Christian Dior are modern and elegant, with a leather skirt given what appears to be a laser-cut treatment, reflecting the brand’s signature cannage pattern.

This pattern has its origins to the rattan weaving on the Napoleon III-style chairs on which Monsieur Dior seated guests at his salon on Avenue Montaigne in Paris.

Legendary Italian designer Giorgio Armani gives the shoulders a cool twist via a black dress from his exclusive Armani Prive range.

The dress comes detailed with crystals and pearls, and bold shoulder cut-outs.

On the local front, we have the design duo of Fiziwoo, Mohd Hafizi Radzi Woo and Izree Kai Haffiz whose dress with a bit of bareness at the midsection is a cut above the rest!

Their Spring/Summer 2025 beige floral dress enhanced with sparkling beads and sequins, features cut-outs at the waist, beautifully anchored by a beaded butterfly.

Such a dazzling dress and as captivating as the butterfly that holds it together.
