Richard Mille continues its pursuit on growing the ladies collection, introducing new female brand partners who fit into this lifestyle aspect of the brand.

Exceptional traits shown by these woman in their respective fields meld with the brand’s goals to push boundaries and persevering with hard work through their grit and tenacity.

The brand recently welcomed Jamaican sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce to the family, an athlete who at 36, remains at the top of her game over difference distances.

Last year, she became the oldest sprinter ever to have become World Champion, and the woman nicknamed “Pocket Rocket” will be preparing for the Paris Olympics next year with the RM 07-04 Automatic Sport on her wrist.

Fraser-Pryce, like all collaborators with the esteemed watchmaker, possesses the drive to break records and continuously challenge herself.

“It’s about pushing barriers! People have always told me what I could or couldn’t do, I wanted to be part of a brand that knows about timing and where age doesn’t limit your progress. At the end of the day, we have the same vision as it pertains to our legacy. What we want to achieve is timeless,” said the athlete in a press release from the brand.

“Shelly-Ann is not only a World Champion”, said Richard Mille brand and partnerships director Amanda Mille. “She is a strong woman who combines this with being a mother. As if that wasn’t already enough, she finds the energy for her charity work and this all-round commitment totally reflects our values.”

The idea of family also chimes with Fraser-Pryce’s experience.

“We athletes don’t get to where we are by ourselves. There are so many people whose shoulders I have stood on, who have believed in me along the way. It’s not the I but the we,” she said.

It is when she represents her country that makes her feel like she is part of a whole.

“You feel a whole nation pulling you over the line,” said Fraser-Pryce, who has strived for excellence over two decades.

The star athlete knows that excellence and performance don’t just happen, as they are the result of daily work, commitment and mental focus.

She remains driven by the will to inspire young women and prove that everything is possible with hard work and determination.

The most successful female sprinter of all time wears the RM 07-04 Automatic Sport, a timeless piece.

“It ties into each person, it owns you whenever you wear it. That’s what I want, the perfect synergy, as if I’m wearing nothing,” she said.

Elegance and refinement

The creation of the RM 07-04 Automatic Sport required three years of development as there were so many challenges.

These included developing a new, very compact and skeletonised in-house automatic movement, guaranteeing high shock resistance as well as integrating the exterior perfectly into the movement while leaving its workings visible.

“We did not take a minimalist approach in this design, we chose an airy movement that revealed its complexity at first glance. Offering a women’s skeleton sports watch is a gamble that few have dared to take. This collection is as much about aesthetics as it is about technicity,” said Richard Mille’s creative and development director Cecile Guenat.

The CRMA8 calibre is an in-house automatic movement with hours, minutes and a function selector.

To ensure the rigidity of the assembly, the baseplate and bridges are made of grade 5 titanium, supplemented by a black PVD treatment.

To earn its sports credentials, the movement underwent a series of rigorous tests to confirm its resistance to 5,000 g’s of acceleration, a major feat for the most compact of all the calibres developed by Richard Mille. Hand finishing that includes polished angles, milled sections, micro-blasted sinks and satin-finished surfaces enhance the elegance of its uncompromising mechanics.

The function selector complication, emblematic of the brand, prevents stress on the winding stem.

Combined with a Quartz TPT pusher at 4 o’clock, a simple press allows the user to choose between the neutral (N), winding (W) or time setting (H) positions.

Its kinematics also are perfectly visible because its assembly is inverted compared to the brand’s other selectors.

The hand at 5 o’clock indicates the chosen function on a flange in grade 5 titanium. A part as finely worked as those of the movement, this crucial element in the architectural aesthetics of the piece brings balance to the whole and contributes to the symbiosis between movement and decoration.

Depending on the version, the case is crafted of Quartz TPT or Carbon TPT, with colours ranging from black for the Carbon TPT model to cream white, mauve, salmon pink, green or dark blue for the five Quartz TPT pieces.
