Actress and television presenter Jasmine Suraya Chin is no stranger to swanky events, often photographed at film launches as well as fashion and beauty events, dressed impeccably in pretty dresses and classic ensembles.

The Sarawakian personality has just wrapped up filming on one project, and will start shooting for another in June, but is currently focusing on her new food business, selling picked fruits through her business, Jeruk Jar.

For events, Carolina Herrera is one of her go-to designers, but for everyday running around, she prefers a more dressed-down look, for comfort.

“I have recently started a wardrobe revamp and have been dressing more on the bold side, where I experiment with different hairstyles and different styles,” says Chin.

“My everyday look, I’m actually quite a simple person, I don’t like to think too much when I go out if it’s just for groceries, meeting up with friends or running errands. I guess my signature look is ‘girl next door’ or a little bit bohemian. I would either wear a long skirt or a singlet or a dress, just something very simple,” adds Chin, who will be playing a police officer in her next acting role.

For now, she is rolling up her sleeves to multitask and manage her brand new business, and doing it in style.

What are your must-have style/beauty items?A plain white oxford shirt.

I always feel that they are so useful, it works when worn on its own, you can tuck it into a skirt, wear it with tights or jeans, or as a jacket.

For beauty, it’s lipstick. When I go out on my own, I don’t really dress up that much but I think lipstick is very useful even though we’re wearing masks now, but I just feel more confident with lipstick, I think it brings out my face.

What trend would you most like to see disappear?

I’m quite neutral but if I really had to pick one I would say checked shirts.

Who is your style icon or what’s your inspiration?

I’ve always adored the late Princess Diana, I think she’s so effortless, and I really like the late Grace Kelly, she was very classy. Also, American blogger Aimee Song and Singaporean influencer Yoyo Cao.

What are three key pieces everyone should have in their wardrobe?

This is quite hard because I think people should have at least 10 things. A plain sweater but it can be striped, a button-down classic oxford shirt, and sunglasses, those are my top three.

If I were to add more it would be jeans, flats or loafers, an oversized blazer, white sneakers and small gold hoop earrings.

Give us one style tip, or two.

Invest in a style that works for your shape and that you feel comfortable in, buy the basics because you can always mix and match, and invest in accessories, you don’t have to get a lot but just basic ones like gold hoop earrings, studs and pearls.
