Three years after opening in Petaling Jaya's Taman Paramount, Remedy Cocktail Bar has finally released a new cocktail menu, and it pays tribute to some of its food and beverage neighbours in the area.
Bar founder Jason Wong and art director Yeoh Choo Kuan designed the physical menu to look like a hospital clipboard, with prescriptions and cures (“remedy”, get it?).
There are even “X-rays” of the signature drinks that break down the ingredients and F&B outlets that inspired the cocktail.

We started with arguably my favourite drink on the menu, Pad Kra Pow, a Bloody Mary riff inspired by the classic Thai pad kra pow dish at Padboy restaurant.
This is a Bloody Mary with a meaty, Thai twist, using elements of bacon, dried chili, fish sauce (!), white pepper and basil for a great highball drink with a little kick in it.

Edible cocktails seem to be on the rise lately, and Pistachio Velvet is a nice one too.
Inspired by a Scottish coffee cocktail (an Irish coffee made with Scotch), it is made in partnership with Artigusto Gelato, who provided the pistachio gelato.
The alcoholic element is a coffee-and-rum foam that is quite delicious.

At the same time, Muscat Roast is also a surprisingly good coffee-tinged twist of a Brooklyn made in partnership with Floffee cafe.
The cognac-based drink uses a unique muscat-fermented Ethiopian coffee to give it a funky little grape-like coffee note, with a jasmine cloud milk cloud adding some fun on top.

One of my favourite new drinks here is the spirit-forward Pizza Margherita.
Made in collaboration with the nearby 1More Pizza outlet, this drink was inspired by the classic Rosita (a Negroni with tequila instead of gin), and really does taste like a pizza in a glass!
Another relatively spirit-forward drink I quite fancied was the Golden Harvest, which is a take on a Smoky Martini that uses Raksasa Nutmeg Gin that is produced by Psychotic Operator, a 'seriously not serious' wine bar and restaurant.

If you like Ramos fizzes, do try the Sourdough Ramos.
Made with handmade sourdough bread from Asa Cafe, a neighbourhood bakery-cafe dedicated to handcrafted breads and specialty coffee, this was one of the yummiest and “bready” version of this drink I’ve ever had.

Speaking of bread, Toast & Kaya is a decent take on the whiskey sour, inspired by the classic Malaysian kaya toast breakfast, and made in partnership with kopitiam Kee Corner.
Finally, we closed the review with the Bramble-twist Black Dog, named in honour of a certain iconic stout, but using blackcurrant stout from Monster & Beer instead.

There’s also an “Emergency Fix” section with three all-time favourite cocktails — Sage & Sea Salt, Sugar Baby, and Mayfield Bergamot – from Remedy’s original menu if you want something more familiar.
All in all, there’s a lot to love about this new menu, from the tribute to their neighbours, to the balance and creativity of the drinks. A good place for a remedy for the soul, I must say.
