Rino, our Pomeranian, arrived at our home when he was just two months old. I can’t believe that he is already one year old now – in the blink of an eye.

Sometimes, when I am doing my homework, he distracts me with his cuteness!

He is a very smart dog too. Whenever his mealtimes arrive, he brings his bowl to my grandmother and sits next to her. Amazingly, he sits quietly 30 minutes before his meals, as if to say he deserves his meal quickly.

Rino checks on everyone in the house and knows exactly where each of us is.

One day, everyone was sitting in the living hall, having some casual talk and laughter, when Rino noticed that I wasn’t there.

He came to my room and yelped a few times so that I would awake. He successfully woke me up from my evening nap.

He shows great interest in whoever rings our doorbell, and is the first to greet or welcome the guest, courier man or family members. With every package we get, he waits until we unwrap it. Indeed, he knows most times it’s for him – food, clothes, toys and snacks.

Since the day he came to our home, my sister and I have been taking care of Rino. We learnt how to manage our time, daily routines and extra duties, including keeping Rino clean always.

Rino’s favourite human food is fried fish. One day, my father fed him some fried fish. Since then, he always follows my father wherever he goes. Once father is home from work, Rino will not let him out of his sight!

He also understands human words. If my mother scolds him, he would sadly walk away and lie down in a corner of the house. Sometimes, when my mother scolds me or my sister, Rino would bark at my mother, telling her not to scold us!

Whenever he wants to sleep, he barks at the air-con so that someone would switch it on. He enjoys cold weather. Unlike other dogs, he loves having a bath.

When we have online classes, Rino troops into our room to check what’s happening. He watches my teacher teaching my classmates and me. Sometimes, he steals my sister’s stationery and we end up chasing him to get it back.

If he is bored, he brings his toys to any family member and barks at them to play with him. Rino loves attention and will try different tactics to get it.

We love Rino very much although he is naughty. My family is lucky and grateful to have him. He is continuously creating beautiful memories for us to reminisce in the years to come.
