Gorgeous Grandma Day is celebrated on July 23 annually to honour grandmothers and celebrate the special place they have in our lives. It is a day to appreciate their loving ways, kindness, wisdom and all the little things they do to make our families happy.

Grandmas share a wealth of experiences and their life story is like a treasure box full of memories, advice and tales.

They can teach us about the past, share family traditions and show us the importance of being caring and patient.

Some grandmas are adventurous who enjoy travelling, while others love quiet afternoons at home. Some are great cooks who prepare everyone’s favourite meals, while others are talented at making crafts, telling stories or playing games. Every grandma is special in her own way.

What makes your grandma gorgeous? Is it her beautiful smile? Her kind heart? Her funny jokes? Or the way she always takes care of you?

“I love my grandmas. They care for me very much and always advise me not to run so fast in case I fall and hurt myself. I am grateful that they give me ang pows for my birthday. They are really wonderful and I enjoy bringing them for family getaways,” says Asher Wang Qi Chuen, eight.

Older sibling Bethany Wang Qi Syuen, 11, says she is blessed to have two wonderful, kind and loving grandmas. “Whenever my paternal grandma spots an interesting article in the newspaper, she will cut it out for me to read since she knows I enjoy reading. My maternal grandma, who lives nearby, is very helpful. She always brings us freshly cut fruits to ensure we stay in good health. I really enjoy making “tang yuan” with her during the winter solstice festival. Thank you grandmas for your love and care!”

“My grandmother is 76 years old but she is still fit as a fiddle. Her hobby is cooking. She cooks delicious food such as fried rice, chicken chop and others. In her free time she will read newspapers. In the evening, she will jog around the park; she will jog about 400m a day,” says nine-year-old Cheryl Ling Sze Tien.
