Veteran Hong Kong actor Benz Hui passed away on Oct 28 at the age of 76, following multiple organ failure caused by cancer.
His projects are being released posthumously, including an interview where he reflected on his illness and journey with cancer.
In an episode of the talk show Doctor And You – Talking Food And Health II, which aired on Tuesday (Nov 11), Hui revealed that he had been diagnosed with kidney cancer last year.
"One day, I noticed my urine had turned very dark. I initially thought it was just heatiness, but when it didn't improve after two weeks, I began to feel uneasy," the actor said.
Hui disclosed that after a medical check-up prompted by his Singaporean wife Angeli Lung, doctors discovered blood in his urine and identified a tumour in one of his kidneys.
Fortunately, the cancer hadn't spread, and he followed his doctor's advice to undergo surgery to remove the affected kidney.
Recalling his recovery, Hui said he was able to get out of bed and walk the very next day.
"The doctor asked how I recovered so quickly. I laughed and said, 'It's because you’re good at your job,'" he shared, drawing laughter from everyone on the show.
When asked whether the whole ordeal affected his mood, Hui – also known for his optimism – replied: "Not at all! Since I had already consulted the doctor, I trust their professional judgment. There's no need to overthink."
Hailed as the "King of Supporting Actors", Hui's known for his roles in films such as To Get Unstuck In Time (2004), You're Hired (2009), Line Walker (2014 to 2020) and more.
He's survived by Lung and their 28-year-old daughter Charmaine Hui.
