One of the most endearing movies from the 1980s has to be E.T. The Extra Terrestrial, directed by Steven Speilberg and starred Drew Barrymore, Henry Thomas, Dee Wallace and Robert McNaughton.
The aforementioned cast reunited recently for the sci-fi's 40th anniversary on Barrymore's popular talkshow, The Drew Barrymore Show.
On the show, the cast reminisced about the time they filmed the 1982 movie.
At that time, Barrymore, who played the character Gertie, was only seven years old. The young girl thought the brown animatronic alien was real.
"I really loved him in such a profound way. I would go and take lunch to him," Barrymore, now 47, said.
Thomas, 51, who played Barrymore's brother Elliot in the movie, recalled the actress was concerned E.T. would be cold in the soundstage that she asked the wardrobe department for a scarf and drapped it around the puppet's neck.
Wallace, 73, who played Barrymore's mother in the movie, also has an interesting memory of the actress and E.T.
"We found you over there just talking away to E.T. and so we let Steven know," Wallace told Barrymore the tale.
"So Steven, from that time on, appointed two guys to keep E.T. alive so whenever you came over to talk to him, he could react to you."
The coming-of-age film follows a 10-year-old boy who finds an extra terrestrial and hides him at home. He tries to keep the alien safe while trying to find a way to send him home.
