A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, actors Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill forever changed the way the world sees science fiction with their starring roles in the 1977 classic Star Wars.

On Oct 21 – what would have been Fisher’s 65th birthday – Hamill remembered the woman who played Princess Leia Organa as a friend and co-star who was, at the very least, tolerant.

“Happy Birthday to a very special someone who was never not fun & always highly tolerant of my juvenile on-set high jinks... even when she wasn’t in the mood,” he wrote on Twitter.

That memorial included a photo of Hamill playing with Fisher's hair on set along with the caption “#CarrieOnForever.”

Fisher died in December 2016 following a life of extraordinary highs and lows that included movie stardom, substance abuse, psychological struggles and a well-documented sense of humor.

That year, she also released her memoir The Princess Diarist in which she revealed she had a fling with her and Hamill’s Star Wars co-star Harrison Ford. Fisher was 60 at the time of her death.

Hamill turned 70 in September. He played Princess Leia’s twin brother Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars franchise. Their characters shared the magical power known as “The Force.” – New York Daily News/Tribune News Service
