Comedian Azlee Jaafar – best known as a member of sketch comedy troupe Senario – started selling fruits and seafood since June to earn some cash to support his family during this pandemic that has hit the entertainment industry hard.
Since filming activities and concerts are not allowed, there hasn’t been any jobs for artistes like Azlee.
According to the 54-year-old, many of the projects he’s involved in have been postponed indefinitely, which is why he decided to take up selling fruits and seafood at Bandar Saujana Utama, Sungai Buloh.
Azlee told mStar – The Star’s Malay portal – that he refuses to be discouraged despite the current challenges. He knew he had to find an alternative way to support his family.
“The other members of Senario and myself were supposed to be shooting our film in Terengganu. We had everything planned already, only the filming remained,” mentioned Azlee, of one of his projects that was postponed.
“Senario’s 25th Concert which was supposed to be held in November had also been postponed as of now.
“This is why I had to resort to selling fruits and seafood items.
“Even though the profit is not much, but at least I can pay for the family’s food and supply.”
Last week, a photo of Azlee sitting by the roadside and selling fruits, went viral. Many netizens encouraged the public to go to Azlee’s stall and help his business.
Apparently, one of the people who visited the stall was famous Islamic preacher, Uztaz Ebit Lew.
“I was touched that he came by and gave me words of encouragement,” shared Azlee. “He even bought some fruits.”
