Azlee Jaafar, a member of Malaysian comedian group Senario, was admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) after suffering a heart attack.
In an interview with mStar, The Star’s Malay-language news portal, Azlee’s wife Aslinda Ayob said her husband was initially rushed to the Sungai Buloh Hospital on Wednesday (June 5) night after experiencing chest pain.
However, the doctors there called for Azlee, 56, to be transferred to IJN as he was in a bad condition.
“The doctor (at IJN) found a 99% blockage in Azlee’s artery, and he had to undergo a heart stent procedure.
“Alhamdulillah he is stable now but still needs more rest,” she said.
Aslinda recalled Azlee sweating profusely and having difficulties breathing on Wednesday evening.
However, they never expected it to be symptoms of a heart attack.
“He didn’t have any heart diseases before this, but he did have high blood pressure.
“He has gout too and has been on medication for 10 years.
“He never had a heart attack, but maybe there were symptoms we failed to notice.
“Sometimes, he would experience numbness in his hands, but I had always assumed it was a symptom of diabetes,” she said.
Meanwhile, Azlee told mStar he is grateful that his two-hour surgery went by without any complications.
Azlee added that he was very lucky he didn't need a bypass surgery.
“I gained consciousness at around 3am. My breathing is a lot better but not perfect as I’m still recuperating,” he said.
