An exclusive digital music release, Hilang, extends Five Arts Centre’s theatre production Fragments Of Tuah (2025) beyond the stage, offering audiences a keepsake of the acclaimed show while allowing music listeners to discover three songs on their own terms.

Originally written for the documentary theatre production, the Bahasa Malaysia songs are performed by actor-singer Faiq Syazwan Kuhiri, who also fronts the indie rock outfit Terrer.

While Fragments Of Tuah revisits, reconsiders and reimagines the enduring figure of Hang Tuah, the songs reach beyond the 15th-century Malay warrior, touching on questions of identity, memory and power that continue to shape Malaysia today.

Written by Faiq, who also plays the ukulele, the songs feature indie singer-songwriter OJ Law on keyboards and audio engineer-musician Shariman Shuhaime on bass and effects, shaping arrangements that feel both intimate and expansive.

The three tracks – Langkasuka, Gigi Dan Lidah and Kan Ku Hilang – carry the production’s theatrical origins into atmospheric soundscapes, shifting keyboard textures and otherworldly effects. Yet it is Faiq’s haunting vocals that hold everything together, giving the songs a life beyond their original context.

For their collaborative work in Fragments Of Tuah, Faiq, Law and Shariman also picked up the Best Music & Sound Design award at the 21st Cameronian Arts Awards in May this year.

There are currently no plans for a physical release of Hilang.

Produced by Five Arts Centre, Fragments Of Tuah premiered in 2025 at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPac).

It has since been presented at Kyoto Experiment in Japan (2025), KL Festival (2026), Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay in Singapore (2026) and the Asian Playwrights Meeting in Indonesia (2026).

Fragments Of Tuah is scheduled to tour international festivals and platforms in 2027.
