The National Art Gallery’s Young Contemporaries Awards, or Bakat Muda Sezaman (BMS) 2021, is inviting the public to vote for their favourite art installation works in two categories here: Visitors’ Choice Online and Visitor’s Choice On Site.

“The BMS21 participants created art during a rather challenging time. Not only were we in the midst of a pandemic, but the (recent) heavy rain and floods in several states across the country destroyed several art installations last month. However, most of these works had previously been documented by the BMS team,” according to the National Art Gallery.

This year’s competition embraces the concept of “Art On Site” or “Seni Di Lokasi”, which saw the participation of young creatives from all around the country. There are a total of 81 finalists.

The public can check out the installations located near them, or opt to view artworks online. On the website, photos of the works in progress, sketches, plans and videos as well as the final installation presentation, are included.

Voting closes on Jan 30.

The Young Contemporaries Awards - BMS is a contemporary art competition and exhibition open to all Malaysians who are 35 and below.

The top three winners for both the Visitors’ Choice Online and Visitors’ Choice On Site categories will walk away with RM2,500, RM1,500 and RM1,000 respectively. Besides these two categories, there are four juror’s choice awards (RM15,000 each) and the Major Prize (RM30,000) which will be announced at a later date.
