VIRTUAL FESTIVAL: GEORGE TOWN LITERARY FESTIVAL 2021
Date and Time: Until Nov 28
The George Town Literary Festival (GTLF) 2021, which kicked off on Nov 25, has been serving up a series of virtual conversations featuring top literary names, including Japanese novelist Minae Mizumura and Indonesian literary star Eka Kurniawan.
One of today's programmes sees acclaimed British novelist, essayist and translator Tim Parks speaking to Eddin Khoo about his myriad preoccupations and diversions — writing across genres, translating Italian literature, on language and reading, and the politics of culture. The conversation also invokes great figures of Italian literature and history as it meanders from a reflection on Dante in our times, to Garibaldi whose footsteps Parks retraces in his new book, and a personal recollection of the towering literary polymath, Roberto Calasso.
GTLF’s theme for 2021, "Mikro-cosmos", explores the spirit of cosmopolitanism and interconnectedness that endures through literature, language and ideas.
The George Town Festival Literary Festival 2021 will be streamed via the festival’s Youtube channel.
