KYOCHON 1991 Malaysia has become the first South Korean fried chicken chain to be certified halal by the Islamic Development Department of Malaysia (Jakim).

The brand announced that 15 of their restaurants, 10 located in Selangor, two each in Johor and Penang, and one in Negri Sembilan, are now certified halal.

KyoChon 1991 Malaysia chief executive officer Terry Goh said: “The Jakim halal certification has been an important goal for KyoChon 1991 since we launched the brand in Malaysia in 2013.

“We were extremely fortunate that our franchisor supported us and invested in a multi-million dollar automated factory to produce the KyoChon 1991 sauces and seasoning.

“This means that KyoChon 1991 customers can now enjoy the same taste and quality as those in South Korea, as all sauces and marinades come from the same halal factory.”

To celebrate the milestone, Goh said KyoChon 1991 was offering customers a 15% discount on dine-in, takeaway and web orders until June 13.

Jakim senior chief assistant director Mohd Fakarudin Mas’od presented the halal certification to Goh at KyoChon 1991’s restaurant in the Gardens Mall, Kuala Lumpur.
