Hungry patrons are spoilt for choice with the variety of dishes available at the stall.

IF YOU are in the mood for appetising Indian food in Ara Damansara, you are in luck.

Restoran Do Re Mi at Dataran Ara Damansara has a vendor who serves hearty and wholesome dishes.

For me, finding good and affordable Indian food has been tough. Luckily, a friend recommended this place.

I decided to give it a try and not surprisingly, I went back for more whenever there was a chance.

The vendor does not have a brand name, but its slogan — “Small place great taste” — is true to its word.

During lunch hours, hungry patrons can be seen enjoying their meals, with more than half of them being regulars.

Owner Ravi Manisekhar started the business after being prompted by his friends and family who enjoyed his cooking.

“During small gatherings, I would always invite my relatives, and they often complimented my food.

“So I decided to start a small food stall to see how it would go, ” said Ravi, adding that they had enjoyed brisk business for over 20 years.

The open-concept style allows customers to watch their food being prepared.

“Everything is done in front of the customers so they can see what goes on, ” said Ravi.

He goes to the market every day to buy fresh produce and has local suppliers providing fresh essentials.

One distinct feature is the vegetarian options which has helped the stall earn a good reputation.

“I work nearby and have been coming here for 10 years, ” said regular customer Ajith Singh.

“I am vegetarian and there is plenty at this stall for me to choose from.’

A wide selection of curries, including vegetarian ones, rasam and dhal are available. Dhal is usually the differentiating factor for me, and the one prepared by Ravi is the kind that I like, with little accents of spices and a good amount of lentils.

The vegetarian options include a beansprout dish that is best eaten with vegetable curry, tofu sambal, a mixed vegetable dish and lightly fried yet crispy bitter gourd, which is a crowd favourite.

My favourite dish was spinach and beans, as there was a bit of saltiness to balance out the flavours.

In addition, I found the crispy fried chicken and fish with a golden crust perfectly complemented the rice and curries.

I highly recommend the mutton varuval. The meat is tender, delicious and has the perfect level of spiciness.

“If my customers feel satisfied with the food, they will recommend to others and hopefully we can serve new ones, ” said Ravi.

Restoran Do Re Mi is located at Jalan PJU 1A/20B, Dataran Ara Damansara, Petaling Jaya. Ravi’s stall is open from 7am to 9pm daily.
