AS ECONOMIC activities slowly resume, restaurants that were closed during movement restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic are opening their doors again.
One such establishment is Garden Court Cafe (GCC) at Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Mitec) in Kuala Lumpur.
GCC is now open daily for half a day, serving dishes from around the world featured in its all-day breakfast menu. Just right for the international crowd that the venue attracts during large events.
The highlight of the menu is a South African favourite, Durban Bunny Chow, which is a loaf of white bread cored in the centre and filled with chicken curry.
Malaysians may have had their white bread with various types of curry at home, but the presentation of the Durban Bunny Chow makes it more exclusive.
There are also other breakfast favourites such as the simple and sweet Fluffy Flapjacks Pancakes, which is a serving of three sweet cream pancakes with maple syrup; Crisp Bacon Waffle comprising Belgian waffles served with crunchy streaky beef and berries; and truffle essence-infused scrambled eggs called the Truffled Scrambled.
The brunch menu would not be complete without the all-time favourite — The Ultimate Full English Breakfast. It comes with a choice of two eggs either poached, cooked over easy, sunny side up or scrambled, two slices of bacon, grilled tomatoes, chicken sausag, baked beans and fried button mushrooms.
Dishes with Asian flavours include The Chick and Oriental Taste Eggs, which comes with poached eggs, skillet-seared salted egg chicken chop served with toast and fries, and Truly Asia, which is nasi lemak with fried chicken.
Healthier options are also available, including oatmeal porridge made from steel-cut oatmeal cooked with organic brown sugar and raisins, as well as Low-carb Healthy Egg, which is four scrambled egg whites served with baby spinach and chicken sausage cooked in olive oil. It comes with a salad.
Mitec acting chief executive officer Mala Dorasamy said its fully-vaccinated staff welcomed customers who were fully vaccinated as well.
She said patrons could dine in with peace of mind as the premises was well-ventilated, given the high ceiling as well as generous space indoors and outdoors at the Oval Garden.
“After spending a lot of time at home during the earlier days of the Covid-19 pandemic, people can now dine out.
“The cafe offers a place to relax and unwind, with a new menu to celebrate flavours from around the world.
“Visitors can also use the jogging trails within the Mitec precinct for a light workout or try a game of Teqball with friends at the Oval Garden,” she said.
GCC executive catering manager chef Chiew Chee Mun said they had 16 items on the menu to satisfy diners with varying tastes.
“We do not use flavour enhancer or store-bought chicken stock in our food preparation.
“We also offer healthier choices to meet certain dietary requirements,” he added.
