PETALING JAYA: KFC Malaysia is expanding its community outreach efforts beyond food assistance with the contribution of 20,000 face masks to underserved communities across the Klang Valley.
The initiative, carried out in collaboration with Kechara Soup Kitchen (KSK) and The Lost Food Project (TLFP), will benefit homeless individuals, underserved families and residents of charity homes and People's Housing Programme (PPR) communities.
In a statement, the company said the contribution would be distributed in two phases through its non-governmental organisation (NGO) partners, which collectively reach nearly 8,000 beneficiaries across the Klang Valley.
The first phase includes the distribution of face masks and KFC meal packs to homeless individuals at Pusat Khidmat Gelandangan Medan Tuanku in Kuala Lumpur.
The second phase will be incorporated into upcoming distributions under the KFC Harvest Programme, which redistributes surplus food from participating restaurants to underserved communities and charity homes.
Introduced in 2019, the programme has expanded to 170 KFC restaurants nationwide and redistributed more than 61,000kg of surplus food through NGO partners.
QSR Brands (M) Holdings Bhd head of governance Sahada Salihin said the face mask contribution complemented the company's existing food redistribution efforts.
"This initiative also complements the work of our KFC Harvest Programme, which has enabled us to support communities through food redistribution while minimising waste," she said.
KFC Malaysia said the initiative was also aimed at addressing the needs of vulnerable communities amid recent air quality concerns affecting parts of the country.
