KUALA LUMPUR: Malayan Banking Bhd
(Maybank) emerged among the top winners at the inaugural Bursa Malaysia Investor Relations (IR) Awards 2026, clinching several major categories.
Maybank won Best Company in IR (Overall), Best Financial Reporting and Best Large-cap Company in IR for Financial Services, while its president and group chief executive officer Datuk Seri Khairussaleh Ramli was named Best CEO in IR.
Tenaga Nasional Bhd
received the Best Sustainability Communications award.
Bursa Malaysia said the awards, held on Sept 4, honoured 32 winners across eight main categories, recognising excellence in investor relations and encouraging higher standards of transparency, engagement and market communication among public listed companies (PLCs).
Secretary General of Treasury Tan Sri Johan Mahmood Merican said effective investor relations was important in strengthening the quality and competitiveness of Malaysia’s listed companies.
"By communicating openly and consistently with investors, public listed companies enable better-informed investment decisions and demonstrate their commitment to transparency and accountability.
"As we continue enhancing the competitiveness and quality of Malaysia’s listed companies, effective investor engagement will remain an enabler of long-term value creation and sustainable market growth,” he said.
Meanwhile, Bursa Malaysia chief executive officer Datuk Fad’l Mohamed said there was considerable opportunity to strengthen investor relations capabilities across the market.
He said as companies, markets and investor expectations became more sophisticated, effective investor relations went beyond communicating performance and helped investors understand how a company was positioned for the future.
Bursa Malaysia said only 32 per cent of listed companies had a dedicated internal IR function, while 17 per cent outsourced the function and 51 per cent operated without any formal IR structure.
The award winners were determined through a market-led evaluation involving local and international investors and analysts, supported by independent verification and Bursa Malaysia’s due diligence review. - Bernama
