is positioning Bagan Datuk, Perak, as an emerging digital infrastructure hub following the formalisation of a RM569 million engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) agreement for its data centre project.
PRIVASIA executive deputy chairman Datuk Puvanesan Subenthiran said the move reflects the company’s strategy to expand data centre development beyond traditional locations such as Klang Valley and Johor.
"When a place gets crowded, resources become harder to secure, and we did not want to build something with a limited socio-economic impact. We want this project to help drive development in the area,” he said at a press conference following the EPCC contract signing ceremony here today.
Also present at the ceremony was Deputy Digital Minister Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong.
Puvanesan said the project, involving its subsidiary Silverstreams and Inspur, has been in development for about two years and is now moving into the construction phase.
According to a joint statement by PRIVASIA and Inspur Cloud Information Technology Co Ltd, the EPCC contract signals that the project has moved beyond planning into delivery, with early works already underway amid rising demand for secure and high-capacity digital infrastructure.
Puvanesan said Phase 1 of the data centre project, involving 10.06 megawatts (MW) of capacity, is now progressing.
"Inspur is an established player in the data centre space, and we were happy during the selection process to actually select and work with Inspur,” he said.
The construction for Phase 1 is targeted for completion by the end of 2027, with operations expected to commence shortly after.
"We hope to complete the construction by the end of 2027, with the data centre expected to go live by the end of 2027 or early 2028,” he said.
Puvanesan said the company will operate the data centre itself, while discussions with potential off-takers are ongoing.
He noted that the development of Phase 2 of the project will be guided by evolving technology and customer requirements, with further announcements to be made once details are finalised.
The project will include core information and communications technology (ICT) and cloud capabilities, as well as high-availability telecommunications systems, supporting services such as co-location, Infrastructure-as-a-Service and Software-as-a-Service. - Bernama
