Manulife Malaysia puts inclusion at the centre of business leadership

KUALA LUMPUR: Manulife Malaysia underscored inclusion as a key driver of both business success and social progress at a recent media meet, bringing together corporate leaders and advocates to discuss how inclusive leadership is shaping the future of work.

The event, themed “Championing Diversity: Malaysia’s Journey to Inclusive Leadership,” featured Manulife Malaysia CEO Vibha Coburn, chief people officer Soh Yoon Yee, Lumirious founder and CEO Anna Yamauchi, and Yayasan Gamuda Enabling Academy manager Grace Gan.

The speakers shared how inclusive practices are moving from ideals to concrete action — influencing leadership decisions, product design and workforce strategies.

The discussion highlighted why inclusion matters for business. Research shows that neurodiverse individuals make up 15–20% of the population and about 17% of the workforce, and that cognitively diverse teams solve complex problems up to three times faster. Inclusive organisations are also far more likely to turn ideas into real products and make better decisions.

“At Manulife, inclusion is more than a value; it’s a business imperative and a social responsibility,” said Coburn.

“When people feel seen, heard, and respected, we unlock potential that benefits individuals, organisations, and society. This commitment shapes not only our work culture but also our solutions for Malaysians—whether it’s health plans that prioritise women’s wellness or products like Manulife Health Saver Enrich that help families safeguard their health and financial future.”

Manulife Malaysia said inclusion is embedded across its operations — from gender-balanced leadership and flexible work policies to partnerships such as the Enabling Academy, which creates employment pathways for differently abled individuals.

The insurer also supports community initiatives to expand healthcare access for underserved groups and continues to develop solutions tailored to diverse needs.

By aligning inclusive practices with innovative product offerings, Manulife aims to ensure its services reflect the diversity of Malaysians and strengthen the connection between businesses and the communities they serve.
