AS widely anticipated, the US Federal Reserve (Fed) cut its benchmark interest rate this week – the first time since December, signalling more cuts in the very near future.
The quarter-point cut and the consequent expected reductions are expected to bring down borrowing costs for the US which is teetering between a stalling job market and an unemployment rate that is “still low”, as described by Fed chairman Jerome Powell.
