Govt seeking to advance agriculture towards a sustainable future - Chan

KUALA LUMPUR: The government is actively exploring ways to increase palm oil yield through technology and sustainable practices, while actively encouraging the industry's transformation into a green future-oriented sector, said Plantation and Commodities Deputy Minister Datuk Chan Foong Hin.

He said this during an official visit to the production facility and Precision Agriculture Research Centre of Twin Arrow Fertilizer Group, which was aimed at understanding the impact and potential of local fertiliser manufacturers in shaping the future of Malaysian agriculture.

"The visit also served as a timely response to the challenges currently faced by Malaysia’s agricultural and plantation sectors," said Twin Arrow in a statement.

During his visit, Chan reaffirmed his strong confidence in the future of Malaysia’s plantation sector, expressing his hope that Malaysian agricultural products will one day gain global recognition and reach international markets.

“Only by applying scientific methods to analyse soil and crop nutrient needs — fertilising accordingly — can we truly enhance both reproductive and vegetative growth in crops," he said.

Meanwhile, Twin Arrow group CEO Lau Choon Xian said the company will continue to integrate traditional practices with modern agricultural trends, driving Malaysia’s agricultural sector toward digitisation, higher value and long-term sustainability.
