SCIB clarifies unit appointed as sub-contractor for DBKL works

KUALA LUMPUR: Sarawak Consolidated Industries Bhd (SCIB) today clarified that its unit SCIB Properties Sdn Bhd (SCIBP) has been appointed as a sub-contractor to undertake an engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning contract in connection with the Integrated Smart Lamp Pole Replacement project for Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) by Ennova Sdn Bhd.

SCIB managing director/chief executive officer Rosland Othman said SCIBP’s scope of work included but was not limited to site clearing, excavation and reinforced concrete footing structure, laying all reinforcement concrete, bolts and nuts, and plates on all mild steel structures, with the poles, fittings and accessories to be supplied by Ennova.

"The scope includes perimeter chain-link fencing works, mild steel gates and setting up; earthworks, levelling, setting out, making point, and other related works; mechanical and engineering works such as wiring, switch boxes, connection to conduits, lay ground earth cable as well as installation of monopole,” he said in a statement today.

Rosland said Ennova was to bear all construction cost of the poles, including the rental of each erected pole in accordance with the agreed rental price between it and DBKL.

"We are unaware of any funding or financing arrangement for the contract by DBKL,” he added.

On Sunday, DBKL has denied appointing SCIB to replace 200 lamp posts in the Klang Valley as claimed.

This statement comes in the wake of reports that a contract worth RM30.75 million was awarded to the Sarawak-based precast concrete product maker via Ennova for the project. - Bernama
