KUALA LUMPUR: Shell Malaysia announced the appointment of Ivan Tan as the new vice president for Malaysia and Philippines with effect from Feb 1,2020.
He was also appointed managing director, Sarawak Shell Berhad and Sabah Shell Petroleum Company Ltd.
Tan, who will be based in Miri, joined Shell in 2001. A Sarawakian who grew up in Miri, his early career comprised a number of well engineering and well operations assignments in Malaysia; The Netherlands; New Zealand and China.
Following this, he had several leadership roles, including general manager wells operations and contracting & procurement manager for projects in Malaysia.
In April 2014, he was appointed as vice president Well HSE, based in The Netherlands. Nearly two years later, he moved to Australia where he was the technical lead of the Shell/BG integration team.
In June 2016, Tan was appointed as chief operating officer for Arrow Energy, one of Shell’s joint ventures.
He was responsible for the end-to-end delivery of capacity development, projects, wells, asset management and energy markets for Arrow’s business in the natural gas industry.
“It’s good to have one of our very own talent, who is known for his strong safety and operational leadership, leading our Upstream business. Ivan personally led a step change in safety culture and contributed towards a stronger and more
sustainable operational capability, in his previous role.
“I am confident that he will further drive our Upstream business in bringing value for our customers and for Shell, ” said Shell Malaysia chairman Datuk Iain Lo.
Tan holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) with First Class Honours from Imperial College, London and a Master’s in Business Administration with Distinction from Manchester Business School, United Kingdom.
