At 9.20 am(0120GMT), the ringgit was traded at 4.0420/0470 to the greenback from 4.0470/0510 on Tuesday.

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit opened higher against the US dollar on Wednesday morning on fresh buying interest for the local currency.

At 9.05 am, the local unit was quoted at 4.1180/1230 against the US dollar from 4.1260/1320 at 5 pm on Tuesday.

A dealer said, the US dollar had also retreated from its two-month high against major currencies ahead of mixed expectation on US economic data to be released later this week.

The ringgit was traded mostly higher against other major currencies, except for the Japanese yen.

It improved against the Singapore dollar to 2.9867/9914 from Tuesday's close of 2.9892/9940, rose against the British pound to 5.9608/9697 from 6.0202/0298 and advanced against the euro to 4.5813/5885 from 4.5931/6014 yesterday.

The local unit, however, slipped against the yen to 3.7240/7295 from 3.7178/7245 on Tuesday. - Bernama
