Two workers killed after falling into a fuel tank in central Vietnam

HANOI (Xinhua): Two workers died after falling into an underground fuel tank at a petrol station in Vietnam's central city of Hue, Xinhua reported, citing the Vietnam News Agency on Monday.

The accident occurred at around 9.50 am local time on Sunday at a petrol station in Thuan Hoa ward, which was undergoing repairs.

According to police, three workers were installing a vapor extraction pipe inside the fuel tank when the pipe fell into the tank.

One worker entered the tank to retrieve the pipe but showed signs of suffocation. Another worker climbed into the tank to rescue him but also lost consciousness. The third worker remained above ground and called emergency rescue services.

One worker died on the way to hospital, while the other died later at the hospital, the report said.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident. -- Xinhua
