AirAsia urges travellers to plan ahead amid monsoon, year-end rush

KUALA LUMPUR: AirAsia has advised passengers to arrive at airports early and monitor flight updates as heavy rain and increased passenger traffic could disrupt year-end travel plans.

The airline said Malaysia's Northeast Monsoon, expected to last until March 2027, could bring prolonged heavy rainfall, particularly between November and January, potentially causing flooding and flight disruptions.

In a statement, AirAsia advised passengers to arrive at least three hours before international flights and two hours before domestic departures.

Travellers are encouraged to complete self check-in through the AirAsia MOVE app or its website, available from 14 days until one hour before departure.

Passengers should also check their flight status 24 hours before departure and again before heading to the airport, while allowing extra time for transfers due to possible flooding and traffic congestion.

The airline recommended using the Express Rail Link for travel to KL International Airport Terminal 2 to avoid road delays.

AirAsia said airport counter check-in would be limited to passengers requiring special assistance, including pregnant women, senior citizens and those travelling with infants.

It also reminded passengers to ensure their travel documents and contact details are updated and to comply with the seven-kilogramme combined cabin baggage limit.

In the event of flight disruptions, passengers should check their email for updates and available travel options or seek assistance through AirAsia's chatbot, Bo.

AirAsia said it would continue monitoring weather and operational conditions and notify affected passengers of any changes.
