PHNOM PENH (Xinhua): Cambodia's renowned Angkor Archaeological Park suffered double-digit declines in both international tourist arrivals and revenue in the first 10 months of 2026, according to an official statement released on Monday.
The park received 566,714 foreign tourist arrivals during the period, down 26 per cent year on year, while generating US$27 million in ticket revenue, a decrease of 24 per cent year on year.
In October alone, international arrivals dipped 6.7 per cent year on year to 56,186, the statement said.
Thong Mengdavid, deputy director of the China-ASEAN Studies Centre at the Cambodia University of Technology and Science, showed optimism that visitor numbers will rebound in the coming years, citing the kingdom's relentless efforts to dismantle online scam networks.
"As we lower travel barriers and actively address safety concerns, Angkor's deep cultural and spiritual appeal will undoubtedly continue to draw back both first-time and repeat global travellers," he told Xinhua.
Spanning 401 square kilometres in northwestern Siem Reap province, the UNESCO World Heritage site remains the absolute centrepiece of Cambodia's tourism economy. The historical park houses 91 ancient temples built between the ninth and 13th centuries. -- Xinhua
