South-East Asia’s mobile-first traders are primed for a new AI wave: The generation that skipped the desktop is about to trade with AI

HANOI: Multi-asset trading platform ProreX is now eyeing the Southeast Asian market as its next expansion focus, aiming to capitalise on the surge of new-generation retail investors who prioritise mobile apps and artificial intelligence (AI).

This strategic move aims to meet the needs of younger traders who no longer rely on traditional desktop trading terminals.

Picture the trader: A young lady at twenty-six, in Ho Chi Minh City or Kuala Lumpur or any other city in the South-East Asia region, checking positions from the same phone used to hail a ride, move money and split a bill. She never sat at a desktop trading terminal and probably never will.

For a growing generation of South-East Asian traders, markets have always lived in their pocket. That matters because the next shift may be even bigger than the move from desktop to mobile: the shift from 'AI that answers to AI that can analyse, prepare and act'.

In Vietnam, domestic securities trading accounts reached approximately 12.26 million by the end of February 2026.

Malaysia shows the same generational shift. According to the Securities Commission Malaysia, investors aged 35 and below have accounted for more than 50% of new retail stock-market accounts opened annually over the past five years and represent about 490,000 of Malaysia’s 2.4 million active retail accounts.

The SC’s 'Capital Market Masterplan 2026–2030' also highlights that 36% of Gen Z and millennial investors use AI chatbots, compared with 15% of Gen X and baby boomers, based on the 2024 Global Retail Investor Outlook.

For a generation already comfortable with digital finance and AI, the leap to natural-language trading is a short one: “Screen the majors, identify the strongest setup, check upcoming events, explain the risks, and prepare the trade for my approval.” - The interface shifts from 'buttons and menus' to intent'

Agentic Trading uses AI agents to analyse market information, coordinate trading tools and prepare actions from natural-language instructions, while permissions and human confirmation control execution.**

The ProreX MCP connects tools including Screener, Smart Score, Trade Ideas, market news and economic-calendar data with MCP-compatible AI agents and MetaTrader 5 workflows.

Instead of simply asking AI a market question, traders can use an agent to screen instruments, evaluate setups, and prepare an action. Manual confirmation remains the default before execution.

According to ProreX internal platform data, adoption of its AI-enabled trading tools has increased by approximately "30% over the past six months".

And then comes Events Trading: Markets traditionally ask, "Where will the price go?" but Events Trading asks: "What will actually happen?"

Events Trading allows traders to express a view on a clearly defined future outcome rather than solely on the price movement of an underlying asset.

Will a central bank cut rates? Will Bitcoin cross a threshold? Will a major political, economic or sporting event resolve one way or another?

In that sense, ProreX is positioning itself among the first broker-led trading platforms in Southeast Asia pursuing an integrated Events Trading offering. It believes in the mantra of 'One platform. Markets, AI and real-world events.

Traditional market trading. AI-assisted analysis. Agentic workflows. And, subject to applicable regulation and jurisdictional availability of Events Trading.

In this matter, AI can misunderstand instructions or work from incomplete information. But ProreX’s approach is simple: AI can analyse. AI can prepare. And the trader decides.

Users should also remain alert to impersonation and scams, access ProreX only through "www.prorex.asia", and verify suspicious communications through support@prorex.asia

South-East Asia’s phone-first generation could define the region’s trading culture for years to come. At ProreX, the direction is clear: bring the market intelligence for quant traders into everyday hands, expand how traders can express a view, and keep the human in control of the final decision.

The generation that skipped the desktop may also be the generation that skips the traditional trading interface (more information can be found at www.prorex.asia (For the record ProreX Limited, a multi-asset online broker prominent in the Republic of Mauritius, is regulated by the Financial Services Commission (FSC) of Mauritius.
