9 dead in building collapse in India


NEW DELHI: At least 9 people died and many were trapped under the debris of a multi-storey residential building that collapsed in India's southwestern state of Maharashtra late on Thursday night, confirmed a local official on Friday.

The incident was reported from the state's Bhiwandi area, near the country's financial capital city Mumbai.

Rescue work was carried out throughout the night. Still, a few people were believed to be trapped under the rubble, and efforts were being made to bring them out.
