BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Selected vendors at the Gadong Night Market have begun adopting digital payment solutions, making transactions faster, easier and more seamless for visitors, while providing greater convenience for tourists.
The Tourism Development Department under the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), in collaboration with Baiduri Bank, is facilitating the adoption of digital payment solutions.
Recognised as one of Brunei Darussalam's most popular culinary attractions, the Gadong Night Market is home to more than 100 vendors and attracts both local residents and international visitors seeking authentic Bruneian cuisine. However, feedback from tourists – particularly transit passengers, cruise visitors and short-stay travellers – has highlighted the inconvenience of relying solely on cash.
To address this, the Tourism Development Department has been working closely with Baiduri Bank to encourage vendors to adopt digital payment solutions.
To date, two vendors have successfully come on board, marking the first phase of a broader initiative to expand cashless payment options across the night market.
