HANOI (Xinhua): Vietnam on Sunday dispatched a team of 82 military personnel from various units, including the border guard and military medical forces, to Venezuela to assist in search-and-rescue operations following a recent deadly earthquake, Xinhua reported, citing a local daily VnExpress report.

The mission marks the third time the Vietnam People's Army has participated in an international earthquake relief operation, the report said.

In February 2023, Vietnam sent 76 military personnel to Türkiye for its first overseas earthquake rescue mission after a magnitude-7.8 earthquake killed more than 43,500 people.

Two years later, in March 2025, Vietnam deployed 80 military personnel to Myanmar following a magnitude-7.7 earthquake that claimed more than 3,000 lives. -- Xinhua
