MOSCOW: Russia and Laos agreed to deepen cooperation on trade, technology, energy and people-to-people exchanges, at a meeting of the two countries' prime ministers here Monday (June 15).
Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and his Lao counterpart, Sonexay Siphandone, discussed ways to expand bilateral ties during Sonexay's official visit to Russia.
Russia is ready to share its expertise with Laos in the fields of digital economy, autonomous electronic systems and artificial intelligence, as bilateral relations are based on friendship, mutual respect and concern for each other's interests, said Mishustin.
He highlighted opportunities for bilateral cooperation in industry, energy transportation infrastructure and agriculture.
The two sides also discussed expanding tourism and educational exchanges. Mishustin said mutual tourist trips increased by 50 per cent in 2025 compared with the previous year.
For his part, Sonexay expressed confidence that his visit would strengthen bilateral ties across all sectors and further enhance mutual trust between the two governments.
He also voiced his hope that recent high-level contacts between the two countries would contribute to deeper cooperation.
Following their talks, the two sides signed an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy. - Xinhua
